Palenque Experience 2018

Chiapas, Mexico

5-Day Photography Workshop

By David Coleman Photography

Coax out your inner Indiana Jones and embark on a once-in-a-lifetime photography adventure to Palenque, Mexico! Journey with International Travel Photographer David Coleman to an “off-the-beaten-path” area in the South of Mexico, offering untouched natural beauty and archaeological gems.

Your Palenque adventure begins with an exploration of the ancient Mayan ruins of Palenque. Wind down the day with an evening photography workshop session on the streets of Palenque City, where you’ll experience the people and slow-grown lifestyle. David will teach you how to capture great photographs set against a backdrop of colorful architecture and stone-paved streets.

Start your second day’s adventure with an hour-long Usumacinta River trip between the shores of Mexico and Guatemala. Cruise past sunning crocodiles and into the heart of the jungle, where you’ll find the Mayan ruins of Yaxchilan and Bonampak, also known as the Angkor Wat of the Americas. As you pass through the stone walls of Bonampak, gaze upon the hidden Temple of Murals, which harbor still-vivid frescoes and hieroglyphics dating back to 790 AD. While there, don’t be surprised if you’re serenaded by a chorus of local Howler monkeys.

On a final adventure, travel to the teal Cascadas de Agua Azul, an array of surreal waterfalls that are easily accessible by vehicle. Not far away is the 115-foot Cascadas de Misol-Ha, where a trek into a hidden cave behind the falls reveals a colony of harmless bats.

David, born and raised in Mexico, is an expert guide who provides a safe and fulfilling photography workshop experience, planning the best sites and times of day for shooting, local fare, and comfortable accommodations in advance. The trip also includes one introductory class and two editing and peer review sessions at the hotel.

Note on limited spaces: Workshops are limited to 6 participants. Small groups allow you to develop closer relationships with fellow travel photographers and also allow David to provide one-on-one photography guidance in the field.

"Palenque was an amazing experience. Safe, beautiful, photogenic, and historic. The Mayan ruins of Palenque were magnificent. Every bit as grand and breathtaking as Angkor Wat in Cambodia. I felt like an adventurer, photographing crocodiles and cruising down the Usumacinta river - Mexico to my left and and Guatemala to my right - then discovering the jungle ruins of Yaxchilan down river."

- Hans t.C., Belmont, CA
