Description

Whitman Works Company is pleased to announce an exhibition of new art by Dan Caster titled, "Paladins - Art of the Warrior Spirit." This new series of paintings capture the pride, energy, and spirit of the numerous inter-tribal ceremonies and pow-wows he has attended on Native American reservations. During his long military career, Mr. Caster also served with many Native American sailors, marines, and soldiers.

"Paladins" is a quiet tribute to the spirit of sacrifice and service of these noble patriots. We invite you to an opening reception with the artist on May 4th, 6 – 9 PM. The exhibit continues in the Whitman Works Company Gallery through May 25.

About the Artist: From early childhood, Dan Caster been influenced by Native American culture. His mother grew up on the St. Regis Indian reservation. A portrait that she painted of Seminole Indian Chief Osceola was was an early inspiration to the artist's work. Encouraged to study art and to honor military service, he eventually found a career that encompassed both. Immediately after high school, he served four years in the military, then attended the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. He earned a BFA in Illustration/Fine Arts from Rochester Institute of Technology in 1989. Upon graduation, he was recruited by the Central Intelligence Agency and ultimately served in over 25 countries supporting critical intelligence missions. When not deployed overseas, he traveled the United States visiting the reservations of Native Americans with whom he served. He was captivated by the pride and energy that emanated from the participants of pow-wows and ceremonies that he attended, and recognized this same spirit in the Native American sailors, marines and soldiers who often served our nation in high risk missions under perilous circumstances. Now that he has retired, he devotes his energy to capturing this warrior spirit through his art.
