Event description

Description

This will be your last chance to learn the ancient art form of encaustic painting! Come to Forager's Local Creators Night and join in the fun!

Encaustic medium/paint is a mixture of beeswax, colored pigment, and damar, a tree resin. The tree resin is what makes the mixture durable after it sets. Each layer of encaustic medium is fused together using a heat gun. During application, the encaustic medium is heated to about 200 degrees and applied as a hot liquid on a stiff, porous surface, like wood. It cools quickly which allows for texturing and layering.

In this class you will learn basic application techniques as well as how to collage with encaustic medium. Anything natural (dried flowers, pressed leaves, acorns, etc) or porous (paper, yarn, fabric, etc.) can be imbedded in the medium. Feel free to bring your own items to collage with or use the supplies provided. Several fabrics and a variety of papers will be available as well as vintage magazines, yarn, raffia ribbon, etc.

Attendees will have access to all the tools necessary to experiment and create your own encaustic peices. Each attendee will have the opportunity to create several small pieces on wood panels. No experience is necessary. Ages 13- adult are welcome to attend. Each class is a stand alone class- attend one or all three!

Tickets are $30 plus a $15 supply fee.
