One Day Workshop for Teens and Adults “Painting on the Passaic”, $75 all supplies included, Sunday, Oct. 23, 1 - 5 pm
The Passaic River runs gracefully behind Farmstead Arts and this idyllic setting will be drawn and/or painted on paper or canvas through direct observation in this one-day outdoor workshop. Using a variety of drawing materials and watercolors concepts such as color, perspective, and composition will be investigated. No previous experience required.

Instructor Doug Schiller received his BFA and MFA from the University of Pennsylvania and diploma from the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. The harmony and balance inherent in nature are integral elements of Doug’s drawings and oil paintings. A grant recipient of the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation Artist/Teacher Initiative, Doug has been an instructor at the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey for over 20 years and an instructor at Kean University and the College of Saint Elizabeth. He initiated the College Arts Fair at the Arts Center. His artwork can be viewed in local and New York City art galleries and is in collections in the United States, England, and Italy. Farmstead Arts is a not for profit arts center located at 450 King George Road in Basking Ridge, NJ at the historic Kennedy Martin Stelle Farmstead. The center offers classes, art shows, concerts and workshops by professional and emerging artists in the performing, visual and practical arts. The farmhouse, which dates back to the 1700’s, is listed on the National and State Historic Registers, along with the English barn and other outbuildings. The center sits on four acres overlooking the banks of the Passiac River surrounded by 40 acres of parkland.
