Event description

Description

Bring out your natural creativity and enjoy painting with pastels, a medium that is unique in its simplicity, versatility and brilliant colors. Create your own original portrait of a pet, ready for framing and hanging!
Pastel paints have been used by artists since the Renaissance to quickly apply rich, intense color to artists surfaces without the need for paintbrushes, solvents, or a palette. The only supplies you need to produce a painting are pastel paint, pastel paper, and your fingers! The technique used to layer and blend the colors on a surface is what will make your creation come alive and shine. Professional grade pastel paints, archival paper, and any other supplies will be provided.
Our artist instructor, will start you off by drawing the pet from a photo you bring with you to class. Then, he will provide step-by-step instruction to teach you about layering colors and shading on the paper to create your perfect keepsake. Your photo can be a printed photo or bring a laptop or large tablet that you can use to display the photo on the screen. Pastel paints produce dust however, so be aware some dust may settle on electronics.
PLEASE NOTE: To produce a quality painting, the photo you bring must be at least 6” x 8” in size, it must be just a headshot of one pet, and you cannot use a photo of a pet in the background, a group photo, or paint a pet far away in a picture. The larger the photo of the face the better for your drawing and painting purposes.
About Your Instructor:
Kevin McCarty has been a professional artist for over 40 years and paints landscapes, portraits, and still life. His works span all sizes, styles, and media, though his specialty is oil painting. Kevin was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and has resided in various parts of the country in his lifetime, including Atlanta, Dallas, Clearwater, and New York City. On scholarship, he studied at the Atlanta School of Art in his earliest years. During his time in New York City, he expanded his artistic skill with the influence of the galleries, incredible art museums, and the stimulating, enervating, everyday environment that is New York. He also spent three months working in Europe and obtaining first-hand knowledge of the masters and major schools of painting. Living and painting throughout the country and Europe have been a major influence on his painting style.
