Derrick “Rtystk” Shavers is an interdisciplinary installation artist who specializes in cultural storytelling and prop design. Shavers’ AfroFuturistic works include prolific use of vibrant color alongside culturally significant patterns, motifs, and portraits of those in his personal pantheon - dubbed “Heirofiti.” His visual language translates systems of change through line and shape, challenging societal unrest with upbeat enthusiasm. Shavers’ provides a significant resource to historically disenfranchised communities, encouraging discourse around the brand name Kiss My Black Arts itself as both a firm demand for respect and a tender invitation of appreciation.
