Event description

Description

You don't want to miss this - the Paddling Film Festival is coming to Baltimore for the first time!

The festival is fabulous! It showcases short-length films (10 - 30 mins) from around the world. It has been an annual event since 2006 and is being shown in more than 120 worldwide locations.

Each year about 90 films are submitted by adventurers/filmmakers - but only the best make the cut to be shown as part of the festival.

These films are extremely high quality with gripping stories and absolutely stunning cinematography.

There will be about 12 films, with a running time of two and one-half hours. Several of the films will be sea kayaking-related, but there will be a mix that includes white water paddling, rafting, and canoeing. Many are about regular people that have pushed themselves to the extremes. Just to give you an idea, the films include:

  • paddling and climbing in Greenland
  • exploration of Glen Canyon in Lake Powell, UT
  • a blind person's kayaking of the Grand Canyon
  • sea kayak surfing in Jamaica
  • a solo white water descent
  • a women's white water team
  • and more!

The showing will be in the UMBC Recital Hall in the Fine Arts Building. This venue is a warm environment with great acoustics and movie theater seating.
UMBC is conveniently located just minutes off I-95. It is about 10 minutes from downtown Baltimore and 35-40 minutes from downtown DC. (See FAQs for specific directions.)

The cost is $17.50 per person. Tickets are available only through Eventbrite. Proceeds from the event (after expenses) will go to Maryland Special Olympics and a Tangier Island restoration project.

The festival is organized by Rapid Media and hosted in Baltimore by Cross Currents Sea Kayaking.
