Description

Join Libby Carnahan, UF/IFAS Extension Pinellas County Florida Sea Grant Agent, as we explore the uniqueness and diversity of Tampa Bay's seagrass flats. Participants will paddle through mangrove tunnels and out in the bay to seagrass flats. We will discuss the ecological benefits of seagrass, types of seagrass found in Tampa Bay, the critters that live there, and the successful management efforts of private and public partners that helped restore our thriving seagrass communities!

WE WILL PROVIDE CANOES, PADDLES, LIFEVESTS and WHISTLES. All participants must be 10 years or older. Any participants under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult with a ratio of 1 adult: 1 youth. Weather can be variable. You will recieve an email prior to the event with recommendations for personal gear including reusable water bottle, closed-toed wading shoes and sun/weather protection.

Participants will meet inside the Weedon Island Preserve Cultural and Natural History Center to go over safety procedures and sign canoe waivers before departing as a group for the water.
