Paddle the Preserve: Love Tampa Bay
Sat, April 22, 2017, 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM EDT
Don’t you just Love Tampa Bay?! Celebrate Earth Day 2017 with UF/IFAS Extension Pinellas County Sea Grant Agent Libby Carnahan for a feel-good community paddle in Tampa Bay. The guided paddle will traverse through mangrove tunnels and over seagrass flats with stops along the way for participants to share their Love of Tampa Bay! Let's be creative and have fun with this! You can share your love of Tampa Bay's waters and wildlife with a story, a poem, a photograph, visual art, a song, or anything else you can think of (work does not have to be original, ie. you can read your favorite poem if you like). Some paddling experience and the capability to sit for 2 hours in a canoe is required.
Please meet at the canoe/kayak launch at the end of Weedon Drive NE at 8:45am to check in. There is limited parking by the launch, you may need to park in the main lot and walk to the launch. Participants will use county canoes and sign the county canoe waiver. All participants must be at least 10 years old. Any participants under 18 years old must be companied by an adult with a ratio of 1 adult: 1 youth.
Participants must wear a closed-toed wading shoe (old tennis shoes, keens, scuba booties). Sun protection (hat, sunglasses, cover up) is recommended. All participants must abide by the safety policies and recommendations of Pinellas County Staff. Lifevest and paddle will be provided for you. Please bring a water bottle.
