April 15th three adult races will be held. One sit-in kayak, One in a sit-on kayak, and one in paddle boards. These races will cover a 5K course starting at YMCA Camp Thunderbird on Lake Wylie, SC. Racers will paddle south along the shoreline, around Sunrise Point, and head for Pier 88 / River Hills Marina. At the marina, racers will round a turnaround buoy or race committee boat and paddle back along the shoreline, returning to YMCA Camp Thunderbird. The Youth Division (Ages 12-17) will be a combined, sit-in or sit-on kayak, paddle board race. Youth division racers will paddle a 2K course that is within the adult race course, it will start and finish at YMCA Camp Thunderbird. Medals will be given out to the top 3 racers in each division. Depending on your kayak/board and experience, it will take between 50 minutes and an hour and a half to complete the course. This is a great opportunity to get out and enjoy the water and enjoy the day.
Paddle for the Cure is much more than a day of kayak/paddle board races. You do not have to race to come to watch the races or browse the booths at the pavilion. Bring the whole family for live music, food, a silent auction, and children’s activities.
All race paddlers get a free Paddle For The Cure T-Shirt and lunch.
