Event description

Description

On Columbus Day, Monday October 9th, 2017, The Library of Congress Packard Campus is hosting its second open house. The Packard Campus holds the Library of Congress' Recorded Sound and Moving Image collections and operates film, audio and video preservation laboratories. Culpeper locals, native Virginians, fans of the Library of Congress, film and music buffs, those fascinated by archives, or those interested in visiting this unique building are encouraged to come to this open house. Led by Packard Campus staff, the open house includes the option for guided tours that will take you through all three floors of the building. The tour is free but tickets through this EventBrite page are required to be able to accommodate everyone. The tour takes approximately 60 minutes.

Tickets for all tour times become available at 8am on Monday September 18th EST.

If you have questions then contact packardcampus@loc.gov or (202) 707-9994.

DETAILS

ARRIVAL: The Packard Campus address is 19053 Mount Pony Road, Culpeper, VA 22701. Please do not arrive at the Packard Campus more than 30 minutes prior to your scheduled tour. There are 134 parking spaces so carpooling is strongly suggested. All spots are open to anyone except the designated handicap spaces.

WHAT DO I DO WHEN I ARRIVE? When you enter the building you will go through metal detectors and then you will see our check-in table. Check in with the volunteers at the table for your tour, which will be called at the scheduled time.

BELONGINGS: Please do not bring any large bags into the building; those items are best left in vehicles. Keep in mind that we have metal detectors that you are required to pass through every time you enter so please limit what you bring into the building. Security protocol demands that they check the contents of every bag and item taken out of the building. To help make this process quick and easy we ask that you please DO NOT bring in any CDs, DVDs, books, films or anything else that may appear to have come from the Library’s collection.

TICKETS: Purchase a free ticket via this Eventbrite webpage for the desired available tour time. Tours are limited to 30 people per start time. Open tickets are available until 9am on Monday October 9th. There is no need to print your tickets as all check-ins will be done via computer. If tours are sold out then feel free to check back at a later date as others may "return" extra tickets.

Frequently Asked Questions

May I show up without previously getting a free ticket via Eventbrite? Only those who have previously reserved tickets on this Eventbrite page are guaranteed to be on a tour. Walk-ins will only be accommodated IF there are spaces available on tours which may mean having to wait a few hours.

Is photography allowed? Photography is allowed; however visitors may not use mono-, bi- or tripods or selfie-sticks.

What are the building hours? Columbus Day is a federal holiday and the building is open to visitors and staff alike from 9:45am to 2:30pm. This means that those taking the 10am tour are only going to be allowed in 15 minutes before their tour begins and those taking the 1:30pm tour will have to exit as soon as their tour is completed.
