'Tis the season for packaging, so why not learn about the rules and regulations of labeling? We will be hearing from our very own City Seeds Catering team on the challenges they faced when sourcing sustainable packaging in order to meet their own brand standards while fitting into a tight budget. Fun Fact: did you know City Seeds Director, Deborah Haust, is actually an expert on packaging and package design??
We'll also be hearing from package designer, Jodi Kostelnik. She has spent the past 10 years running her own design business: Hello Neighbor Designs. She specializes in working with clients in the food industry; helping them to create branding and packaging that looks as delicious as their food tastes. As a result of that focus in the foodie world, she has become well-versed with the specific attributes and regulations that need to be considered when developing food packaging.
In addition, Jodi also runs a product-based business, The Neighborgoods, where she creates and sells food-themed goods for everyday life. Growing the Neighborgoods into a successful business has allowed her hands-on experience running a goods-based small business. This gives her the ability to relate to small growing food businesses on what it takes to run the business as well as combining that with her expertise in brand development.

We began our School of Food curriculum learning how to establish the foundational elements of your business (mission statements, crafting the perfect pitch). Now, as we move into the Winter semester, we're diving into the nitty-gritty. Beginning with rules and regulations of packaging, in the New Year we will cover Financial Forecasting, Health Regulations, and Small Business Accounting.
