Event description

Description

The Maine Cohort for Customized Learning is a cohort of schools from Maine and New Hampshire. This Fall we are hosting two (Sept. 11 & Oct. 5) one-day summits in Manchester, New Hampshire for educators who are focusing on quality instruction within compentency-based learning systems. Our summit format provides participants an opportunity to share and collaborate in an effort to problem solve and create new methods and action steps that help address our largest implementation challenges.

Quality instruction is essential as we continue to transform our education systems. Designing learning experiences that incorporate content knowledge learning goals, critical thinking, and habits of mind require that teachers and learning facilitators make important and informed decisions about the most appropriate instructional strategies to use with certain types of knowledge.

At this summit teachers and learning facilitators will collaborate to design lessons. Using tuning protocols, participants will provide each other with feedback and ideas for how to design interdisciplinary learning experiences that include the explicit teaching of critical thinking and habits of mind.

Come with a team from your district/school (cohort & non-cohort schools) or as an individual, and help us problem solve and identify strategies and methods that help support educators as they continue to design the Ideal Learning Experience for each and every one of their learners.

Outcomes for our Summit

Summit participants will:

  • investigate concepts specific to intrinsic motivation and identify current practices that help provide the conditions for learners to be engaged and focused on learning.
  • identify the challenges to meeting learners at their appropriate learning level and problem solve how to balance the demands of prescribed programs and state testing results.
  • increase their understanding of designing learning experiences with three components in mind (identifying content, critical thinking, & habits of mind).
  • develop an interdisciplinary approach to designing learning experiences.
  • make connections with other practitioners and engage in a collective conversation about how we mitigate the assembly-line processes supported by many of our instructional resources & state/federal testing procedures.
  • share learnings, gain insights, network with others, and create action steps that will support efforts to transform their systems.

Daily Schedule: 8:30 - 3:00 with lunch provided at 11:30

6.5 Contact hours will be provided.
