This concert signals a major musical event with Grammy® Award winning pianist and composer Pablo Ziegler joining the North Country Chamber Players in the historic premiere of an authentic new version of Astor Piazzolla’s compelling, tango-inspired Four Seasons of Buenos Aires (Cuatro estaciones porteñas), his fascinating tribute to Antonio Vivaldi’s beloved baroque masterpiece. Mirroring Vivaldi’s format, Piazzolla’s major work depicts, in four segments, the changing of the seasons in his own homeland, Argentina, by painting a brilliant tango-infused picture with colorful, rhythmic music that ranges from slow and sultry to sassy and electric. As the pianist in Piazzolla’s legendary Quintet, Pablo Ziegler is recognized around the world as the principal living exponent and custodian of nuevo tango, extending the jazz influence in the style through his numerous performances and recordings, and his own celebrated compositions and arrangements. From original sketches, Pablo Ziegler will create a new version for the Chamber Players’ unique instrumentation, piano, strings, winds and percussion, that will more closely resemble than any to date Piazzolla’s original ensemble performances. In addition, the program will include classic tangoes and several of Mr. Ziegler’s original tango compositions, as well. This concert is offered as part of 8 days of Weeks: The White Moutains Cultural Festival in celebration of the Centennial of The Weeks Act.
