Event description

Description

This is a concert staged reading of Oya (The Yoruba Dance Drama), the epic tale of the female Orisha, Oya, of the Yoruba Pantheon. It is a story of love, hate, betrayal, deception and murder. We follow Oya's journey, as she transforms into a waterbuffalo, falls in love and marries, to only lose her children and be betrayed by her husband. She subsequently disrupts a royal family and commits murder.

Written and directed by the multiple award winning David D. Wright and chorographed by Tony Yemoja. Traditional songs are performed by Akpong, Amma McKen. The cast includes such luminaries as Arthur French, Phynjuar, Aixa Kendrick, David Roberts and many of your theatrical favorites. There will be audience participation. Not to be missed. One day performance only. This is a fund raising event to create an off broadway production.
