Event description

Description

Oxford Transformed is a political education festival all about building left political power. That means imagining the world we want to live in and planning how we get there.

The festival takes inspiration from The World Transformed, a programme of panels, workshops and gigs organised alongside Labour’s annual conference.

Our theme, “Organising for a Green New Deal”, will focus on how we can--and must--confront the dual crises of climate change and inequality together. That means a massive mobilisation to transform our fossil fueled and exploitative economic system, putting people and planet before profit.

The idea of a Green New Deal, sometimes called a Green Industrial Revolution by the Labour leadership, is fast gaining traction. But we still need to educate ourselves about what a GND should look like, plus how we build the movement to make it happen!

Oxford Transformed will focus on those two aims, educating and organising. It will feature panels on green jobs, housing, energy, food, democratic ownership, international solidarity and more. We’ll hear from variety of campaigns and speakers, both from Oxford and further afield. We will also have several workshops, for instance, giving people a chance to imagine what a greener, fairer Oxford would look like plus a training session on how to organise with the Labour for a Green New Deal campaign.

Finally, we’ll end the day in the only acceptable way--with lots of drinks and chat! Come along to our after-party at the Victoria Pub (90 Walton St) from 8PM.
