Event description

This is a self-supported 3 day, 2-night backpack trip to Camel Falls in the Pole Creek Wilderness in Owyhee County. We are currently looking for an educator (or a very knowledgeable individual) in anthropology, botany, geology, entomology, or fish and wildlife to join us. If we don't find one, we will enjoy the solitude of Wilderness Saturday. The hike is 4 miles in, 4 miles out with and an elevation gain of 200 feet (right at the beginning) and 300 feet loss (at the end of the hike). MAP

Guidance from Becky Reed, and an emergency transmitter (that we don't need...hopefully). A friendly group setting and good sharing of knowledge.

  • Friday: Meet at Gus Gas 110 ID-78, Grand View, ID 83624 at 10am (More info on meet up when event is a week out). Drive to parking area 46 miles on Mud Flat Road, about 1.5 hours. Start hike the 4 miles hike in to make camp. We will camp just outside the Pole Creek Wilderness boundary but will still treat camp as we are in Wilderness and leave no trace.

  • Saturday: enjoy the solitude of Owyhee Wilderness and explore Camel Falls and The Pole Creek Wilderness. If we find a knowledgeable individual (educator), we will spend time exploring the area with them.

  • Sunday: Hike the 4 miles to back to the cars. Hope to be back by 1pm
