Hear perspectives from ADU homeowners, property managers, and full-service groups who help with everything from building to renting.

About this Event

One of the benefits of owning an ADU, is the opportunity to generate rental income while being part of the solution to the housing crisis. However the idea of welcoming a stranger into your personal space may be intimidating and managing the property, daunting. This session hopes to relieve some of the stress by offering various perspectives from ADU home owners, property managers, and full-service groups who help with everything from building to renting.

Special Guests include:

  • Lenore McDonald of Center for Elders’ Independence whose mission is to provide an innovative model of healthcare and medical services for frail, low-income seniors that empowers seniors to live independently. Lenore has been renting an ADU from her work colleague and shares both her journey of finding her home and her experiences as a tenant.
  • Olesia Chikunova of Home WiP, a concierge ADU service company founded to improve communication between builders and homeowners through a more efficient and transparent process. Olesia was inspired to start this company after facing the many challenges she faced as a homeowner in California building her own ADU.
  • Lark Ferrell of City of Napa. As Housing Manager of the City of Napa Lark has researched and designed affordable housing programs that utilize home-shares, and ADU home builder incentives. Her department and partners have experience with the intermediary steps sometimes needed to match homeowners with renters.
  • Host: Renee Schomp of Napa Sonoma ADU Center, a project focused on increasing housing affordability through education and resources created from gathering data and research from city and county staff, builders and architects and homeowners who have built ADUs or are interested in building one in the future. Renee also lives in an ADU.

In collaboration with thought leaders, building industry professionals and members of the broader BIG community, we are envisioning a new approach to home and neighborhood building that fosters health in the broadest sense—as an interconnected web of personal, community and bioregional well-being.

We value your commitment to a better housing future and hope you will join us for this special event. To reserve your space, please register now.
