OWN MEDIA INTRODUCTION

The world is spending more time than ever reading, watching and listening to content online. Whether it’s through Youtube, Snapchat, Facebook or Instagram, it's hard to deny that content consumption has become an integral part of our daily lives.

But why only watch, when you can also create? Each of us are full of creativity, imagination and talent waiting to be unleashed. Technology gives us access to so many tools that can help us to bring those visions to life, our imagination into reality, and express our talents to the world.

That’s why we’re launching OWN Media, Asia’s first online media channel produced by students for students. We want OWN Media to serve as a unique platform for students to have the freedom to uncover their passions and interests, learn to create meaningful content, and share their productions with other students and the world at large.

And we’re inviting all students to become their OWN star by joining OWN Media’s Production Team.

OWN MEDIA COLLABORATION WITH CARTOON NETWORK

Cartoon Network are proud supporters of OWN Academy’s vision of helping students gain 21st Century skills, and OWN Media’s objective of helping students become the next generation of creators. In support of that vision, Cartoon Network are partnering with OWN Media to provide selected students with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Outstanding Production Team members will have the opportunity to go to Singapore and work with Cartoon Network professionals to create a 30-second promotional video for one of the network’s hit series and be seen by 19 million people! Chosen students will work alongside a world-class media production team, supervised by expert network professionals, on a piece that will be televised and reach millions of viewers across Asia. More details in relation to this opportunity will be provided at a later stage.

OWN MEDIA COURSE STRUCTURE

There are 4 different levels within the Production Team. Students will start at Level 1 and, with more experience, graduate into higher levels and take on greater responsibilities.

  1. Level 1 - Filmmaking (Introduction). Laying the groundwork for future success, Level 1 gives the Production Team’s newest recruits a crash course in filmmaking. This is a 3-hour intro class on the first Sunday of every month. Once this level is completed, the students are eligible to join Level 2.

  2. Level 2 - Filmmaking (Beginner). Students work together in teams to bring their beautiful and meaningful content to life, where they bring their work from zero to one. This is a year-long program and we have classes on Tuesday and Saturday.

  3. Level 3 - Filmmaking (Intermediate). Experienced team members are given greater responsibilities and, using their advanced knowledge, collaborate with and lead other students to produce even higher quality content. This is a year-long program and we have classes on Tuesday and Saturday.

  4. Level 4 - Media Production Internship. OWN’s most advanced Production Team members collaborate with our coaches and professionals to service real-world partners of OWN (such as NGOs, start-ups, and charities), helping them to create the content they need.
