OWASP Newcastle - January 2018 meetup
Event Information
Description
It's 2018 and time for the first OWASP Newcastle meetup of the year. We'll be hosting 2 great talks in our usual talk-pizza-talk fashion. The room is CCE01-008 which is in the Law building of Northumbria University (shown here: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Northumbria+Business+and+Law+School/@54.9750574,-1.604106,19z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x487e70c7b4bc3ed9:0x6fb426ca5f0f3247!8m2!3d54.9751084!4d-1.604419)
This is the same location as the two previous meet ups but in a different room, there should be signs up inside the building to direct you to the room.
Talk 1: Neil Dixley
Code that fights back
Talk: Lessons from the gaming world on detecting and responding to attacks on software assets. An introduction to proactive software security including a philosophical look at how far we should go to protect our apps.
Talk 2: Luke Sadler
Mobile devices hacked, aka Why you should never trust an app
Talk: In this session I’m going to demonstrate the lack of basic security measures taken by most app developers, leaving your personal details and passwords vulnerable. We’ll discuss some of the risks that we might be taking daily by assuming that the developers of the apps that we use have our best interests in mind / aren’t lazy. It’s not all doom and gloom though - we’ll look at some of the simple measures that you can take to protect yourself against common exploits and vulnerabilities.
