Event description

Description

For the second year, Overland magazine and the National Union of Workers have partnered together to run the Fair Australia Prize – a $20,000 prize for fiction, essay, poetry and art exploring the theme ‘Our Common Future’.

To launch the prize, we will host a lively debate at Melbourne’s Toff in Town on 9 December on the topic, ‘Does a “common future” mean overhauling our political system?’

Arguing for the overhaul: co-founder of the Safe School Coalition Victoria ROZ WARD, former editor of The Big Issue MELISSA CRANENBURGH and national secretary for the National Union of Workers TIM KENNEDY.

Fighting the tide: Junkee’s Politics Editor OSMAN FARUQI, New Matilda’s national affairs correspondent BEN ELTHAM and former assistant secretary of the ACTU TIM LYONS.

The debate will be followed by the launch of Overland’s final issue for 2016, available for sale on the night.
