Description

Outliers, Mavericks and Risk-takers: The Emergence and Legacy of Downtown

SoHo Center Stage

A program organized by the New York Foundation for the Arts

The artists in Inventing Downtown were the first pioneers in what became the epicenter of the New York art scene. This panel looks at the evolution of the area, from the opening of commercial galleries in the late 1960s to the continued emergence of the Lower East Side as a new hub. Over the past years, this change has been driven by people unafraid to be outliers, people who embody a spirit of adventurous risk-taking that has become the very definition of "Downtown." Panelists include: Betty Cuningham, Betty Cuningham Gallery; Michael Findlay, Acquavella Gallery; Patricia Margarita Hernandez, P! Gallery.

Free; RSVP required.
