Event description

Description

In August of 2014, the DCYF Division of Juvenile Correctional Services was awarded a grant from the University of Massachusetts Medical School to examine how comprehensive implementation of risk assessment, mental health screening, and substance abuse screening in juvenile probation can impact the processing of young offenders and their reoffending.

In this project, the researchers focused on facilitators and barriers to implementation of risk and need assessment and behavioral health screening and the impact on disposition and case planning. Additionally, the study examined the interaction between mental health, serious substance use issues, and the risk of reoffending factors on recidivism.

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Gina Vincent, Associate Professor at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and Director of the Translational Law and Psychiatry Research Systems and Psychosocial Advances Research Center, will be presenting the results of this important study to Rhode Island stakeholders.
