Event Details

Yes, there is actually mountain biking in New York City. Join us to experience it for yourself, in Cunningham Park, Queens!

It's free. It's off the F train. It's a day packed with adventure. Highlights include:

  • Seven miles of trails. All ages and types of riders are welcome to participate.
  • Bring your bike and join a clinic. We will have group rides and clinics throughout the day.
  • Free demo rides of 2014 Trek Bikes: Discover the fun of the newest Trek Bikes, courtesy of the Trek Demo Truck. The ride includes men's and women's road and mountain bikes, 38 bikes in total: Slash, Remedy, Stache, Lush, Cronus, Superfly, Madone and Domane.
  • Kids rides: In honor of Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day, we are hosting family-friendly rides for both beginner and intermediate levels. You and the kids can bring your own bike, or pre-register to borrow a complimentary bike. Adults must be present during the kids ride, but are not required to participate. Rides are led by Trips for Kids NY.
  • Clinics: Whether you're a novice looking to learn how to ride the trails, or an advanced rider looking to pick up tricks, we'll have clinics for you. From women's clinics with Kristen Phillips to pump track clinics with former pro Tom Oates, you'll get great instruction on handling and performance techniques. All clinics are free.
  • Meet the MTB community: IMBA, Discover Outdoors, NYCMTB and more will be participating in and supporting this event. We are also thrilled to collaborate with Brickwell, a great bike and triathlon shop in Long Island!
Register now for a chance to win a $100 gift card from Bicycle Habitat!

We start at 10am; clinics and rides start shortly thereafter. We will also have an obstacle course for the full day. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the ride or clinic start to assure you and your bike are ready to ride.

This event is organized by Trips for Kids NY and Bicycle Habitat, to support getting more New Yorkers finding new ways to enjoy the great outdoors. This is a family-friendly event, appropriate to all ages and all skill levels. With adult rides and clinics sponsored by Trek Bikes, we will also be doing kids rides and clinics to celebrate of the International Mountain Biking Association's national "Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day".

Trips for Kids NY is a NYC not-for-profit organization that teaches kids to bike in the great outdoors. Proceeds from event raffles will benefit TFK. Bicycle Habitat is a supporter of Trips for Kids and its mission to make bikes more accessible to everyone.

Do I need to bring my own bike? You are welcome to bring your own bike, and also to borrow one of ours from the demo truck. Adult bikes are available from Trek on a first-come, first-served basis. If you bring your own bike, just be sure you have knobby tires to handle the dirt.

How long can I use a demo bike? Sorry, you get what you pay for: The demo bikes are free but available only for a limited time, about 15-20 minutes. There will be a line for demos, and we need to share nicely with others. You understand! So, if you want to do long rides, you will not be able to do so on a demo bike. If you want to do longer rides, you will need to bring your own bike.

Does my son/daughter need to bring their own bike? Your child is welcome to use their own bike. We recommend that it has some suspension system or at least knobby tires. Trips for Kids NY offers to look at your bike when you arrive, to recommend how it will handle the trails. Additionally, complimentary kids bikes are available courtesy of Trips for Kids on a first-come, first-served basis.

What do I need to wear or bring?  Comfortable shoes and clothing is encouraged. No open-toe shoes. Helmets required. We will have a few helmets to borrow, but recommend bringing your own.

What are the trails like at Cunningham Park? Trails are winding and some parts are more technical than others. For a full trail map, visit:  Cunningham Park.

What if I've never ridden a mountain bike before? This is a great time to start. Be sure to start with a clinic. They are free, and will introduce you to what you need to know.
