Event description

Description

Jump into a time machine to going back over 100 years to a period when this territory was thriving with immigrant farmers. In general, we will be shooting abandoned schools, churches, farmsteads, barns, grain elevators and old cars and trucks. We also have obtained special permission to shoot a boarded up multi-story 100 year old hotel and a gigantic abandoned asylum that feels like it is right out of The Shining. This workshop will consist of six days and five nights. You will fly into Bismarck ND, be picked up and shoot locations on our way to Minot. This city will be our hub for the trip; we will stay in one hotel so there is no packing and unpacking. On the road, we will spend a maximum of 2 hours at most sites, giving time to shoot and receive individual instruction. We will aim to be traveling from 7am until about 6pm, with time out for a quick lunch. We have scouted over 120 locations in the state so, depending on weather conditions, we will pick the best for that day. The workshop cost includes instruction, hotels and ground transportation in North Dakota. The group would be capped at 10 people. There will be a waiting list. The photo opportunities are powerful and exciting.

The conditions and subjects will be so varied that participants must use all the tricks they can learn….bracketing, ND filters, pano’s, special lighting, etc. We will be there to introduce them to you and walk you through them until you are comfortable trying them.

There will be an individual critique session set up for each student after the trip is over to reserve our precious time during the trip to concentrate on shooting and traveling. The goal of the workshop is to fill lots of memory cards with outstanding shots from a location that very few people visit.

Weather Planning The high plains area is capable of all sorts of weather patterns. While mid September is notorious for mild “tran-seasonal” weather, strong winds, driving rain, or high dry heat or snow are all a possibility. Speaking of weather, Keith, being a former military aviator, will give daily mini lessons on weather forecasting that every photographer should know.

Price Includes Lodging, Ground Transportation in North Dakota, and our infamous instruction with flair.
