About this event

Kiawah’s far-ranging educational lecture series returns to The Sandcastle for the Fall on Thursday, October 20 with an important but seldom discussed topic: Making End of Life Decisions.

The guest speaker on October 20 will be Bonnie Compton, who carries the work title of End of Life Doula. A sought-after speaker, author and researcher, Bonnie seeks to offer support and resources to help individuals and families navigate end of life decisions. As a trained counselor and nurse, Bonnie has spent more than 30 years working with families going through serious challenges and stressful events.

Bonnie believes that it is important that individuals and families have conversations about death and about the decisions that often precede such a difficult time. How to structure those conversations? What kinds of decisions should be discussed? What can be done to provide the best support during an often emotional time? Most importantly, she suggests that thinking about such decisions for themselves and for family members will allow individuals to enrich their current lives.
