About this event
"… to suddenly discover yourself existing…"
For the last thirteen years, SAADA has worked to document, preserve, and share stories from the South Asian American community.
Now, with the support of 407 backers on Kickstarter, South Asian American stories will be on bookshelves in homes, schools, and libraries across the country.
Join us on Thursday, July 8, to celebrate Our Stories, SAADA's introduction to South Asian America for high school and college-aged readers. The event will feature readings by authors, remarks from SAADA staff and board members, and cheers from supporters and well-wishers.

About the book:
Our Stories: An Introduction to South Asian America is an anthology rooted in community. Bringing together the voices of sixty-four authors—ranging from artists to activists to academics—Our Stories weaves together the myriad histories, experiences, perspectives, and identities that make up the South Asian American community. This volume consists of ten chapters that explore both the history of South Asian America, spanning from the 1780s through the present day, and various aspects of the South Asian American experience, from civic engagement to family. Each chapter offers stories of struggle, resistance, inspiration, and joy that disrupt dominant narratives that have erased South Asian Americans from U.S. history and made restrictions on our belonging. By combining these narratives, Our Stories serves as a community-driven reimagining of a reference book that illustrates the diversity, vibrancy, and power of the South Asian American community.
