Our Conversation Continues
Thu, August 25, 2016, 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM EDT
The conversation about local news continues on August 25 with Breaking the News, Part Two: a solutions-focused, Kalamazoo-centered follow-up to our May 19th Part One event. Part Two takes the state-level issues discussed at Part One and explores how they translate to our community.
We’ll feature up-close conversations with local editors and publishers in the Kalamazoo area, plus communicators and community organizations. We'll visualize the “media landscape” of Greater Kalamazoo, highlighting the broad range of news, information and entertainment media available in Southwest Michigan. And we'll consider media gaps where providers might want to broaden their coverage or offerings.
Local media participants include:
Steve Ellis, Publisher, SW Michigan Spark
Kathy Jennings, Managing Editor, Second Wave Southwest Michigan
Marie Lee, Editor & Vice President at Encore Publications, Inc., publisher of Encore Magazine and FYI
John McNeill, News Director, Midwest Communications (FM106.5 WVFM; Z96.5 WZOX; The Touch 95.5FM & 1560 AM; AM 590 WKZO and The Fan 1660 AM)
Darlene Mohr, Publisher, and Editor/Events Manager Michelle Morgan, Women's Lifestyle of Greater Kalamazoo
Steve Racette, General Manager, and Robin Griffin, Editor, Vineyard Press, Inc., publisher of The Courier-Leader and Paw Paw Flashes
Stephen Williams, General Manager and Andy Robins, News Director, WMUK
This will be a fully interactive, facilitated session where all participants will have the opportunity to share what is working and where there is opportunity for improvement. Ultimately, we believe this meeting could be critical to improving how local news and stories are distributed and reach their targeted audiences.
The event begins at 6 p.m. with appetizers and a cash bar.
