Description

World renowned drummer Akira Tana and Otonowa will perform their unique eye-opening, culture bending Japanese jazz in Watsonville. Tana a graduate of Harvard and the New England Conservatory of music has played with jazz greats, Sonny Rollins, Sony Stitt, Hubert Laws, Zoot Sims, Lena Horne, Ruth Brown and James Moody.

Appearing in Watsonville on March 7th at 3:00 pm Akira Tana brings his consummate musical mastery into congruence with his deep Japanese cultural roots. Otonowa which means "Sound Circle" launched a program to aid the Survivors of the 2011 earthquake and tsunami to raise funds and spirits.

You'll hear unique melodies you've never heard in highly original settings you're unlikely soon forget. Joining Tana will be pianist Art Hirahara who has family ties in Watsonville. Masaru Koga woodwinds and Noriyuki Okada bass.

Proceeds will benefit the Watsonville Buddhist Temple and the City of Watsonville Kawakami Sister City Program.
