“Actionable 2020 - Economic Agenda For Converting Poverty To Prosperity For Young Adults Nigerians Both At Home And The Diaspora”
We, the people of Osun State of Nigeria living in the Dallas Fort-Worth area of the US want to be a part of an initiative that offers engagement with a growing community of African entrepreneurs, civic and public leaders from sub-Saharan African countries.
The theme of our discussion is “Actionable 2020 - Economic Agenda For Converting Poverty To Prosperity For Young Adults Nigerians Both At Home And The Diaspora”. We have concluded that individual remittances will not solve the current challenges of poverty; not even scholarships and endowments. We think that the economic fundamentals of Nigeria need transformation in order to reverse the current pain of poverty.
Yet, what are these fundamentals that will bring meaningful change for a 26-year old man who cannot marry his fiancé because both families are more focused on stopping the disappearing daily bread? Or answers to questions such as, how is it that Zimbabweans can afford solar-powered homes, and people in Ejigbo, Osun State have no idea when the grid will favor them with electricity again?
What opportunities are available for us to change the perspectives of our people from hopeless emigration? Can these opportunities produce results of measurable progress by 2020? We are concerned with decisions and actions required of individuals, and less about governments.
We are not seeking funding or politics. On the other hand, we are looking for how to maximize our funds to economically transform the individual lives of our people. Hence, we use the keywords, Actionable and 2020 with utmost seriousness.
The Symposium will hold on Saturday, October 29, 2016 in Irving, Texas.
