Description

Hello OSIFT,

It is almost that time of year again to start celebrating the Holidays! Keeping with tradition, the annual Holiday Meeting will be a fundraiser for the Oregon Food Bank and this year we get to be AT the OFB! It is almost that time of year again to start celebrating the Holidays! Keeping with tradition, the annual Holiday Meeting will be a fundraiser for the Oregon Food Bank and this year we get to be AT the OFB! Each attendee is encouraged to bring non-perishable food and/or monetary donations. Last year the group donated a record amount for money, and we would love to surpass that number this year. To do that we need your help! Cash or Check will be accepted at the door. The following website is also set up to take online donations, especially if you are someone who would like to donate even though you can’t make it to the meeting in person. https://give.oregonfoodbank.org/OSIFT.

One of the other great things about the December meeting are the door prizes. Every donation, food or money, will earn tickets towards a fantastic door prize raffle. We also need your help here; the more donated raffle prizes we receive, the better your chance of taking home something. We like to encourage companies as well as individuals to consider donating door prizes. Some great examples include company swag, gift cards, and bottles of wine. We aren’t picky and your fellow diners won’t be either so get creative and bring something you would love to receive. The raffle is always a lot of fun- anybody can donate and anybody can win, so bring food and/or money donations, a raffle prize donation, and plan to have a fantastic time!

Opportunities:
Non-perishable food: 1 ticket per 2 items
Monetary: 2 tickets per $5
Company Sponsored Raffle Prize
Individually Sponsored Raffle Prize

As a reminder, 10 pounds of food feeds 8 people, and $10 feeds 30 people! Anything you can do will go a long way to help those in need. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. Thank you in advance for your generosity and support!

Our speaker this month will be Sharon McFadden of the OFB. Sharon is a certified food scientist who graduated from Oregon State University’s Food Science Department. Sharon has served on the Board of the Portland Culinary Alliance, Oregon Section of Institute of Food Technologist (OSIFT) and has held the position of Vice President and President of the Quality Assurance Association. She is an active member of the Institute of Food Technologists, OSIFT and the Portland Culinary Alliance. Sharon will be giving us an update on the OFB, and showing us just how far our donations can go. There will also be tour opporutinities for those who would like to see the facility, please wear closed toes shoes if you would like to go on the tour.
