ORIGO Education strives to deliver innovative professional learning to help teachers make mathematics learning meaningful, enjoyable and achievable for all students. Join us for one full day to be inspired and informed about:

  • powerful visual models that can be used across grades to foster deep conceptual understanding
  • the mathematics practices of the common core and how they should look in your classroom.
  • the importance of focus, coherence and rigor in your instruction
  • the new features of Stepping Stones 2.0

8:00-9:15am – Keynote (James Burnett)

Making the Most of Meaningful Models

Versatile models and tools support the coherent progression of content as they are used across many elementary grades. In this keynote, James will examine the models for whole number, fractions and decimals that are used to develop deep conceptual understanding.

9:30-11:30am – Session 1

Fostering Mathematics Proficiency in the Classroom

Mathematically proficient students make sense of problems and reason logically as described by the eight Mathematical Practices of the Common Core State Standards. This session will explore the meaning of the Mathematical Practices and uncover what they look like in the classroom.

11:30-12:30pm – Lunch

12:30-2:30pm – Session 2

Understanding the Key Instructional Shifts of the Common Core Standards – Focus, Coherence, and Rigor

What does a focused curriculum look like? How can coherence occur within and across grades? What exactly is rigor? This session will address these commonly asked questions, using examples from Stepping Stones to promote participant understanding.

ORIGO Listened and Learned! Exploring Stepping Stones 2.0

ORIGO Stepping Stones 2.0 is the result of listening to teacher feedback over several years. This session will highlight the enhancements to Stepping Stones that will help you plan and teach more efficiently and effectively.
