Who owes what to the very poor? And what may the poor do to enforce those debts? Can there ever be a just war? Even in unjust wars, are there other norms besides simply: 'stop fighting'? How and why did cognition, morality, religion and other fundamental human traits evolve? What is the scientific method? How should belief and evidence be connected? Is time travel paradoxical? Can we conceive of a 'zombie', physically identical to you, but lacking conscious experience? How do philosophers make progress? These are just some of the many questions being studied and taught in the School of Philosophy at the ANU.
