Event description

Description

Thank you for your interest in the Minnesota Birth Center!

Participating in an MBC Orientation is an essential part of establishing care with us. At Orientation you will meet one of our midwives, learn more about MBC's Birth Philosophy and guidelines, and take a tour of the available space and birthing rooms.

When registering for an Orientation, please keep the following in mind:
-Just one ticket covers the registration for you and a partner or support person.
-Please review the Paying for Care section of our website to determine that your insurance policy is listed as In-Network.
-You are welcome to attend an Orientation at one location and establish care at the other location (e.g. you may attend Orientation in St. Paul and establish care in Minneapolis).
-If you register and are unable to attend, please cancel your registration in EventBrite so that another interested person may take your place.
-At the Orientation's completion you are welcome to sign up for a first prenatal visit.

A note to clients desiring a Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC):

-If you are attempting a Vaginal Birth After Cesarean, you are not required to attend an Orientation but are welcome to attend if you wish. If you choose to not attend Orientation, please call for more information on setting up an initial visit.

A note to clients who will be transferring their care in pregnancy:

Minnesota Birth Center values the relationship that is forged over the length of a pregnancy. We also understand that sometimes a pregnant person finds that their preferred philosophy of birth changes over the course of a pregnancy. WIth that in mind, we welcome transfers of care according to the following guidelines:

Birth Center Birth

Patients desiring an out-of-hospital birth at the Minneapolis or St. Paul locations of the Minnesota Birth Center must transfer* their care to MBC by 32 weeks and 6 days gestation** and meet the following requirements:

  • Transfer Clients who have not birthed previously must pursue childbirth education and/or doula services.

  • Transfer Clients must attend an MBC Orientation, if possible prior to the first visit.

  • Transfer Clients must review the “What Conditions Could Prevent Me From Giving Birth with the Minnesota Birth Center?” section of the Frequently Asked Questions page of the MBC website.

Transfer Clients will be conditionally accepted for care until their complete medical records are reviewed at the Transfer Visit.

*"Transfer” means that clients must have their complete prenatal records sent to the Minnesota Birth Center and have an appointment scheduled for no later than 32 weeks and 6 days gestation.

**Exceptions to the “32 and 6 week” date may be made on a case-by-case basis for families who are moving from another area who have been receiving consistent prenatal care and have contacted MBC prior to the 32-week deadline to inquire about care at MBC.

Hospital Birth

Patients desiring a birth at United Hospital attended by MBC midwives must transfer* their care to MBC by 34 weeks and 6 days gestation.

VBAC clients are not required to attend Orientation, but are welcome if interested.

For any other planned hospital births:

  • Orientation is required for any Transfer client who transfers prior to 32 weeks.

  • Orientation is not required for any Transfer client who transfers after 32 weeks, but is highly encouraged.

*"Transfer” means that clients must have their complete prenatal records sent to the Minnesota Birth Center and have an appointment scheduled for no later than 34 weeks and 6 days gestation.

Please note: There are some medical circumstances for which Minnesota Birth Center will not be the best option. Please take the time to review our risk criteria (available on the FAQs page of the MBC website) prior to scheduling your Transfer Visit.

Questions about the registration process may be directed to the Minnesota Birth Center Front Desk:
