Have you ever wanted to start a running or walking club in your faith-based organization or in an ethnic minority community? Or do you want to attract more ethnic minorities to your running club? In this workshop, you'll learn about

  • WII-FM: The Economic Impact of Fitness

  • History of Running & Running Organizations in the African-American Community

  • Debunking The Myths About African-Americans and Running

  • Selecting a Running Group Structure - Formal Clubs to Informal Social Media Groups

  • Retaining Runners and Walkers

Instructor Information

The workshop instructor is Tony Reed, CPA. He's a RRCA Certified Running Coach and the Co-Founder and Executive Director of the National Black Marathoners Association, the oldest and largest national organization of African-American distance runners. He's also on the boards of directors for the Dallas Marathon and Running USA. In 2017, he was inducted into the National Black Distance Running Hall of Fame.

During his 50 years of running, he was one of only forty people in the world to complete the "marathon hat trick." He completed (1) over 100 26.2-mile marathons on (2) all seven continents and (3) in all 50 States. He's also the first Black in the world to complete marathons on all seven continents. Subsequently, he's been featured in media outlets and publications ranging from Runner' World, Black Sports, and Runner-Triathlete magazines to Ebony, Pride, Southern Living, USA Today, and the Wall Street Journal. He also authored over fifty articles and five books.
