Keynote Speaker Cesar Vargas, Esq.

Co-Director of DREAM Action Coalition

OLAA is holding its Fifth Biennial Summit on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Portland State University. The Summit will be used as a platform to establish strategic priorities for meeting the overarching needs of the growing number of Latino Oregonians.

This year’s theme,Fuerza en Comunidad (Strength in Community), will be used to convene 100 individuals from leading Latino organizations, businesses, elected officials, and public servants to both recommit to a united Oregon Latinx platform for leading organizations, and leaders to utilize in their community building, public educations, advocacy, and engagement work. This will also support OLAA’s work to enable these organizations to build a pipeline activating community leaders to become civically engaged and give others the support to step into civic leadership roles in their communities. OLAA will also present the 2018 Edition OLAA Report; this year we are adding a case comparison to highlight how strengthening the inclusion and engagement of Latino students and parents might improve educational outcome.

Oregon Latino Agenda for Action (OLAA)

OUR MISSION

To unite Oregon Latinos behind a non-partisan, values-driven agenda that acknowledges diversity and empowers Latinos with tools that equip them to step into civic leadership roles.

OUR HISTORY

The Oregon Latino Agenda for Action (OLAA) was an effort facilitated by Oregon Consensus of Portland State University to bring together a broad range of representatives from the Latino community throughout Oregon to collaborate in developing an “Oregon Latino Agenda for Action.” The motivation for OLAA came from discussions and gatherings (Salons) facilitated by Oregon Consensus with key Latino leadership in 2009 and 2010.

Prior to 2009, tri-county Latino community members met to discuss the need for a convening body that brought together statewide Latino leaders to support and build an action agenda to promote, recognize and build an actionable agenda. From these gatherings and a series of committee meetings emerged the Oregon Latino Agenda for Action (OLAA). OLAA is governed by an executive committee and is staffed in large part by volunteers and a facilitation team.
