Event description
Join us for a section hike on the Oregon Desert Trail!

About this Event

This is a self-supported 4-day, 3-night backpack trip from Lake Owyhee, the Eastern Terminus of the Oregon Desert Trail, to Leslie Gulch. Renee Patrick, the Oregon Desert Trail Coordinator and Andrea Bowen, BLM Geologist and volunteer at Friends of the Owyhee will be your expert guides. The hike is a distance of 26 miles and covers Section 25 of the 750-mile Oregon Desert Trail. A shuttle from Leslie Gulch to Lake Owyhee will be provided to get you back to your vehicle on Sunday. This backpacking trip is like no other.

What to Expect:

20 of the 26 miles involve cross-country (no trail) hiking, often with uneven footing,side-hill hiking, little/no shade, and uphill sections. Renee will lead the navigation of the hike, but this is an excellent opportunity to come prepared to learn more about backcountry navigation and practice your map reading skills on this immersive backpacking adventure.

Trip Highlights/Challenges

  • Water will be provided at the start.
  • Great guidance from Andrea Bowen (BLM/FOTO) and Renee Patrick (ODT coordinator).
