Event description

Oregon Coast Photo Caravan

August 23 - 29, 2018

From Newport, OR to Bandon, OR

Description of Workshop:

The rugged coast of Oregon offers photographers a wide range of image-making possibilities including harbors, lighthouses, rocky cliffs, beaches, forests and sunsets. Join the caravan with Rick Sammon and local photographer Alex Morley and you’ll get to the best locations at the optimum shooting times … guaranteed.

This is an excellent workshop for photographers who are looking to improve their landscape, nature and HDR photography, and to expand their portfolios with unique subjects and images.

Here’s how the caravan works: You drive. You book your own hotel rooms (we will recommend a hotel in each location). You pay for your own meals and park fees. We provide photographic instruction and guidance. And, we arrange shooting locations, meeting times, conference rooms, restaurants, etc.

Workshop Schedule:

Days 1 and 2:

The workshop begins in Newport, Oregon where we visit a lighthouse, look for nesting bird colonies, and photograph morning tide pools and beach sunsets. We explore Newport’s working harbor to shoot boats, crab pots and piles of textured fishing nets. We also work on night photos of boats and reflections in the harbor. At the Oregon Coast Aquarium we have an opportunity to photograph a jellyfish display, shark tank and playful puffins.

Day 3 and 4:

We head south to Florence and explore the best area on the coast for tide pools. We scheduled the workshop to take advantage of low tide access to colorful starfish and anemones. Along the way we stop at two unique locations to capture high-energy ocean sprouts and sprays. There’s also an icon lighthouse we plan to shoot at sunset.

Days 5 and 6:

The workshop concludes in Bandon, Oregon to capture images of unique sea stacks and a third lighthouse. In addition to seascapes, the group will visit Shore Acres State Park, to shoot amazing sandstone cliffs, including Minor White’s Wall, and a lovely garden perfect for macro photography. We end with a group slide show and critique.

Physical Requirements for Oregon Coast Workshop:

Please note that this workshop requires participants to be in good physical shape. Access to some locations includes walking up and down 200 vertical feet on steep trails and stairs. Some walks are up to a mile on sand and rocks.
