Event description

Description

Since the publication of Ordinary Miracles in the summer of 2017, lots of people have got in touch to say how much they resonated with the themes of meals, mess and miracles, especially in pioneering contexts such as church planting and ministry with marginalised people and places. This day is a first step in bringing people together to develop friendships, share stories, eat food, pray and worship together, and sense what the Holy Spirit is stirring among the forgotten people and places of the UK.

Details: There will be a mixture of group chat, time for sung worship and prayer ministry, and some teaching input from Anna Ruddick, Jill Duff and Chris Lane.

Here is some information about our speakers:

Dr Anna Ruddick is a community theologian and researcher who facilitates theological reflection and learning for leaders, congregations and Christian organisations seeking to deepen and strengthen their relationships with their local community. Her doctoral work focused on the relational dynamics between incoming Christians participating in incarnational urban mission, and the people they meet in their communities. It asked the question ‘how does transformation happen in incarnational urban mission?’ Anna has worked supporting those in incarnational urban mission for the last twelve years and currently represents Livability, as Community Engagement Associate, and Urban Life as a Core team member. She is also a Research Fellow at Bristol Baptist College, and a trustee of the William Temple Foundation. Anna lives in Leicester with her husband Andrew.

Jill Duff is the founding Director of St Mellitus College North West, based in Liverpool Cathedral where she teaches New Testament, Mission & Church planting. St Mellitus NW trains church leaders from a range of denominations, and is the first full-time ordination college in the NW for over forty years. She has been involved in various types of church planting in Liverpool for the last 12 years. All her ordained ministry has been in urban parishes, so her passion is to see leaders raised up from unlikely backgrounds, churches planted, and people hear "the wonders of God in their own languages". Previously she has also been a school chaplain, a manager in the oil industry and has a PhD in Chemistry from Oxford.

Chris Lane leads Langworthy Community Church, a church he helped to plant in 2004 in inner city Salford. He was also part of initiating the Eden Salford project. Chris is a tutor and lecturer in theology at St Mellitus College NW. He is married to Esther and they have 3 children, who are being taught to follow Jesus and Manchester United, in that order. Chris is the author of Ordinary Miracles, released in summer 2017, and will be hosting the day.

The event is hosted by St Mellitus College North West and we are very grateful for their kindness and hospitality. www.stmellitus.ac.uk
