Description

Join us at 8:30 AM (CST) for the Order of Malta Mass at The National Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help, America’s Marian Apparition Site. The Order of Malta Mass is a special mass held on the first Friday of each month with prayer intentions for the sanctification of the members of the Order of Malta throughout the world as they carry out their mission to care for the sick and needy.

The Green Bay-area Order of Malta is part of the American Association of Sovereign Military Order of Malta, one of the world's oldest layperson religious orders. The organization dates back to 1048 when its members, known as "Hospitallers," started the world's first hospitals, caring for the sick. They continue to operate a hospital, Holy Family Hospital, in Bethlehem and clinics throughout the world.

The charism of the Dames, Knights and Auxiliary Members of the SMOM is the care of the sick and tending to the needy. SMOM is a sovereign entity that holds United Nations Observer Status and has diplomatic relations with 120 different countries. The humanitarian relief organization, Malteser International, provides supplies and tends to the needs of those in war-torn countries and those in need in disaster relief. In addition, the New York Association, with which the Green Bay-area Order of Malta is involved, provides prison ministry programs.

A perpetual candle has been lit and installed by the Order of Malta- Green Bay area at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help with special prayer intentions for the victims of natural disasters in the United States and throughout the world. In addition, the Knights, Dames and Auxiliary members of the Green Bay-area Order of Malta hold two food drives for the hungry for Green Bay- metro area pantries twice a year at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help. Its members also accompany and assist those who are sick and/or have mobility issues at all Eucharistic Healing Masses held at Champion Shrine.

As America's first and only Church-approved Marian Apparition Site, the National Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help hosts the Order of Malta tri-association family pilgrimage and retreat for the Order of Malta in America, with some interntional members also attending. On the first weekend of August of each year, Knights, Dames and Auxiliary members of all three associations - Western, Federal and American - come together with their family members to Champion Shrine on pilgrimage.
