Event description

Description

We love where we live.

After nearly a century Orcas have returned to Howe Sound, and we think that's worth celebrating. Help us to create an Orca out of people holding umbrellas!

Howe Sound is a treasure in our backyard that needs to be protected. Join us in this fun, family-friendly event which will be captured by drone to create a cool video starring you! Check out our last event here.

You can bring your own black, white, or blue umbrella for free, or support My Sea to Sky by purchasing a beautiful #ProtectHoweSound umbrella in black, white, or teal for $25.

IMPORTANT! The Orca Action will begin filming at 4:30pm sharp! Make sure you arrive early enough to register and pick up your umbrella.

Join us afterwards from 5pm to 9pm for a community picnic at Junction Park/O'Siyam Pavilion, with food trucks, live music by Cat Madden and Farrah T Schwab, kid zone, facepainting, yoga, booze garden, silent auction, cool prizes, and the premiere of our Heart of Howe Sound videos.

Order your #ProtectHoweSound umbrella before 28th September 2019. There are only a limited number available!Order your Protect Howe Sound umbrella now

FAQs

Why do I need to RSVP?

As you can imagine, it's quite complicated to create an orca out of people holding umbrellas! We need to have a good idea of how many black vs white vs blue umbrellas we will have so that we can set everything up on the day using a giant grid to mark each spot. So the number of umbrellas is very important to plan this action. Please tell your friends and family to make sure they RSVP!

Why is there a limited number of #ProtectHoweSound umbrellas?

It will take 2-3 weeks for the umbrellas to be printed and delivered to Squamish in time for our event on 29th September, so we had to guesstimate how many people would attend based on the number of pre-orders that were made by 9th September.

When can I pick up my umbrella?

Umbrellas will be available for pick-up at the Orca Celebration on 29th September. Please let us know if you have ordered an umbrella but don't plan on attending the Orca Celebration.

Can I bring my kids?

Yes! This is a kid-friendly event, with facepainting, colouring, games, and more! Children 10+ can hold their own umbrella, or they can share your umbrella when we create the Orca.

How many people can share an umbrella?

Wanna get cozy? We suggest 1-2 adults per umbrella, or 1 adult with 1-2 kids.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

We encourage people to walk, cycle, or catch public transit wherever possible. Street parking will be available nearby. If there is enough interest we will arrange buses from Vancouver and Bowen Island.

What can I bring to the event?

Bring your own black, white, or blue umbrella or support My Sea to Sky and purchase one of our #ProtectHoweSound umbrellas for $25!

Bring picnic blankets or campchairs for our community picnic, and bring your own picnic if you want! Food trucks and alcohol will be on site.

How can I contact the organizer with any questions?

Email events@myseatosky.org and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.

What's the refund policy?

Refunds are only available until 9th September when we order the umbrellas, as we are ordering the umbrellas based on ticket sales. However you can sell your "ticket" to someone else to participate, or you can pick up your umbrella at a later date from the My Sea to Sky office in Squamish.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No. We will have a list of everyone that has RSVP'd for the event.

Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?

Yes, you can sell your "ticket" to someone else to participate, or you can pick up your umbrella at a later date from the My Sea to Sky office in Squamish. Please let us know if you can't make it.

Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?

Yes, however please email events@myseatosky.org to give us permission to give them your umbrella.
