carbon nanotube and c60Over the next few years, the nanotech industry will need six million workers worldwide. Oakton’s free Nanotechnology Education Program, designed for science and technology  teachers, can give you the tools to help students get in on the ground floor of this rapidly growing field.

 

 

 

Workshop take aways:

  • Become familiar with the Nano-Link (www.Nano-Link.org) classroom modules.
  • Learn to use cutting-edge nanotechnology equipment via remote access.
  • Design a classroom activity to introduce students to key nanotech concepts.
  • Earn three semester hours of graduate credit through Aurora University, Aurora, IL.

Selected participants who complete all workshop activities are eligible to receive support to attend a US nanotechnology conference.

 Accommodations

All participants will have the option of over night accommodations at the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel, 9599 Skokie Blvd., Skokie, IL 60777.  Transportation between the hotel and the IS+TP will be made available.

Ongoing resources:

  • Tap into Oakton faculty for expertise and information.
  • Bring students to the nanotech lab for hands-on instruction.
  • Be part of an electronic learning community and support network.

 

Participation is open to US residents representing academic institutions and is free of charge, with priority enrollment supporting those applicants who intend to offer a module associated with nanotechnology at their home institution.

Costs associated with workshop attendance for housing and meals will be provided by the National Science Foundation.  Reimbursement for coach class travel is also provided.   If you are in need of accommodations, please contact Bob Sompolski at 847-635-1975.

 FAQs

What is the reimbursement process?

Costs associated with attending the workshops that involve travel will be reimbursed to attendees after submission of the event reimbursement form. Attendees must complete the reimbursement form that will be distributed at the event and provide original receipts to the following address:

Processing of the paperwork may take 2 or more weeks after the form is received.  Supported travel by automobile will be reimbursed for fuel and at the federal compensation rate of 54 cents/mile. Supported travel by other means will be reimbursed for coach class travel.  The workshop will provide meals as is shown on the agenda.  

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

Transportation to the hotel should be arranged by attendees.  A shuttle from the hotel to the IS+TP will be provided. Transportation details to the Illinois Science + Technology Park are available at this link.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Please bring your printed ticket on the first day of your workshop.  This will enable staff to scan the document as evidence of your attendance.
