Event description
Orange wine is not from Orange. We chat about the style that's transfixed the modern wine-drinking demographic. Six wines, snacks and fun!

About this event

A conversation and tasting around the magical, mystifying, magnificent world of orange wine. Or amber wine. Or skin-contact wine. Or macerated white wine. Whatever you'd like to call it, we're gonna talk about it this style of winemaking where white or grey (pink!) grapes undergo extended periods of "skin-contact" whilst they are fermenting, giving the finished product colour, tannin and deep aromatics.

It is an ancient style of winemaking that was and has been widely practiced in Eastern Europe and the North-Eastern realms of Italy since ancient times, however, with the explosion of "natural" wine-making and the market's thirst for more exciting styles of wine, it's almost become ubiquitous across the plant. And rightly so, the winemaking style offers some of the most exciting, interesting and sometimes challenging wines in the world.

In order to fully grasp the history and the progression of orange wine, we will be taking a deep dive into a broad range of ancient and contemporary styles, regions and grapes that are involved in its production. Join Ella Stening from Native Drops, for a tasting of six oranges wines, some snacks and some fun round table discussion about it all.
