Event description

Description

Genesis House, a program of Freedom Foundation, in partnership with the Access Women Network of Access Bank Plc. is organizing a public lecture, themed: Violence Against Women: Why it Matters and Why You Should Care. This event is part of our participation in the global UN campaign to end violence against women.

Launched in 2008, the United Nations Secretary-General’s UNiTE to End Violence against Women campaign designated the 25th of every month as Orange Day, and 25th of November to 10th of December as days to raise public awareness and increase political will and resources for preventing and ending all forms of violence against women and girls in all parts of the world. The UNiTE campaign calls on all governments, civil society, women’s organizations, men, young people, the private sector, the media and the entire UN system to join forces in addressing this global pandemic.

To that end, Genesis House and the Access Women Network have been collaborating to support this cause. The event consists of a Keynote Speech followed by an interactive panel discussion. Through its maiden edition in 2015, the “Orange Lecture" ignited a discussion about the prevalence of violence in Nigeria and progress made so far. Our 2016 edition focused root causes over the past 21 years and proffered best possible solutions.
