Helping Patients with Opioid Use Disorders in Primary & Specialty Care:
A Special 1-Day 6 CME Event

This CME event is designed for all medical providers in primary and specialty care and not only for those treating Opioid Use Disorders. It also meets criteria for the Virginia Board of Medicine’s bi-annual requirement for 2 hours of CMEs for Controlled Substances.

Due to the popularity of our keynote speaker, Beth Macy, the general public is also welcome for our afternoon panel and keynote presentation (1:30 - 3:30pm).

All medical providers play an important role in combating opioid use disorder, which may be new and uncomfortable for some. However, our participation is essential to turning the tide. Come learn about current treatments for opioid dependence and the many ways healthcare providers are coming together with communities to battle this epidemic.

  • Discuss the latest prescribing guidelines for opioids and change prescribing practices to reduce the risk of dependence.

  • Discuss the latest treatment guidelines for opioid use disorders, including Medication Assisted Treatments.

  • Explain how to screen and identify patients at high risk for opioid dependence and how to refer to treatment.

  • Identify state and local initiatives that are currently being used to address the opioid epidemic.
