Ophthalmic Surgery Grand Rounds (OSxGR)
Event Information
About this Event
Colorado Retina and Mile High Eye Institute are excited to lunch a brand new complimentary program, Ophthalmic Surgery Grand Rounds (OSxGR). OSxGR is a monthly virtual educational series geared towards eye care providers to be held on the first Thursday each month from 6-7 PM MST.
Unlike the standard clinical-based CE, each activity will provide case-based presentations, focused solely on the surgical aspects of addressing a variety of ocular issues with the most sophisticated modern methods. These lectures will be instructed by specialized, highly-trained Ophthalmic surgeons, who perform multiple major surgical procedures in their workweek. They will illustrate different surgical techniques through images and operating room video content. We will cover everything from routine to rare vitreoretinal issues, cataract and refractive surgery, systemic diseases with ocular manifestations, glaucoma, corneal, and oculoplastic procedures. If you want to learn about the several types of ophthalmic surgery that can be used to correct vision-threatening conditions, we’ve got you covered!
This course is free and open to all vision care providers and their support staff, however due to accreditation restrictions only licensed optometrists and physicians will receive CE or CME credit. Attending physicians will be awarded one hour of AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ through Centura Health in partnership with the Colorado Medical Society (CMS). One hour of COPE Live CE credit will be awarded to OD's, CE accreditation provided by ARBO.

NEXT COURSE: Management Decisions and Surgical Considerations in Severe Glaucoma
DATE: December 3rd, 2020
TIME: 6-7 PM MST
ACCREDITATION: 1.0 hour COPE CE Credit + AMA PRA Category 1 CME Credit™
Presenters: Jordan Stanley, MD + Zachary Vest, MD
Panelists: Anjali Sheth, MD + Arvind Neelakantan, MD + Carl Sloan, MD
Summary: New and chronic patients with advanced glaucoma present a host of difficulties for managing providers. Is the patient stable? What testing is helpful? Is the patient at risk for loss of functional vision? Do they need surgery? Is surgery too risky? What other factors besides their intraocular pressure are important to consider? What topics should be discussed with the patient and family?
Dr. Jordan Stanley, glaucoma specialist from Marietta, GA will spend the first half of the presentation reviewing the management strategies for patients with advanced end stage glaucoma. These patients offer an array of challenges in management because typical diagnostic modalities can be limited or have high variability. They can also be burdened with multiple ocular comorbidities which may make diagnosing the responsible mechanism for visual decline difficult. Advanced glaucoma has natural fluctuations in symptoms making it difficult to distinguish progression from fluctuation for both patient and provider. This virtual activity will review these issues and some tips for managing these complex patients. The second half will address when elevated intraocular pressure and cataract surgery overlap. This will address intraoperative issues that can arise including suprachoroidal hemorrhage and pre-operative glaucoma conditions that benefit from cataract surgery.
