Galvanize is excited to partner with the Fort Hood Soldier for Life Career Skills Program to offer our 18-week Software Engineering Immersive to active-duty army soldiers in their last 6 months of service.

The Software Engineering Immersive equips you with the tools to land your dream job in the tech industry as a software developer. Galvanize graduates are employed at some of the top tech companies around the world, and our program delivers the world-class instruction, student support, and career services that will help you join their ranks and launch your career.

If you are planning to join the Operation Level Up Software Engineering program, we strongly encourage you to attend this study group weekly prior to your intended start date. Instructors will be on hand to help guide you through the preparation material, answer questions, and ensure that you learn the basics of programming.

What: A weekly, open study session held every Sunday exclusively for soldiers who are preparing for the Galvanize Software Engineering program through the Fort Hood Career Skills Program. Work on prep materials, ask questions, and get help from instructors.

When: Every Thursday, 3PM to 6PM; Every Sunday, 10AM to 4PM

How to Prepare:

- Install Google Chrome (any modern browser should work): https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/desktop/

- Sign up for a Google account if you don't already have one (We will be using an online code editor by Google)

Your instructors Nik and Ray are here to help you through the prep course materials, every step of the way!

Nikolas Mentakis (Thursday’s 3PM to 6PM)

Nik is the dedicated instructor for the Operation Level Up program here in Austin. He has been an instructor for Galvanize for almost two years now. Nik has a passion for teaching and helping aspiring software engineers level up! He believes anyone can learn to code with enough effort and the right support. In a prior life, he was a short order cook in a 50s diner!

3 interesting facts about Nik:

His dad's family lives in Greece and he’s traveled there several times to visit

Growing up, he had a whole bunch of random animals, including some llamas and a turkey

He’s a big fan of coffee, and likes to expand my collection of mugs

Ray Dunning (Sunday’s 10AM to 4PM)

Ray is really passionate about his work. He likes to challenge what he thinks is possible for himself, which is why he decided to become a software engineer. He enjoys learning new things, and the thrill of writing a piece of code that it works the way he was expecting it to. In the Army, he was a 13R: Field Artillery Firefinder RADAR Operator.

3 interesting facts about Ray:

He was homeschooled until the 6th grade.

His first car was a motorcycle that he had to ride all the time, even in the rain.

He grew up on the Oregon coast and had stairs to the beach.
