Join the VIP reception for the Reinterpreting the Pioneer Exhibition during the opening weekend of events featuring noted Florida Artists contributing to South Florida's distinctive culture and history.
Friday, December 2, our first night's exhibit is a FREE ticketed event to celebrate the lifetime of Reva Freedman via a retrospective of her art with special guest Outsider Art Archivist, friend to Mrs. Freedman since the late 80's, and noted Author, Gary Monroe. He met Reva when her career was budding as a 50-year old mother, tracking her progress as a musician-turned-painter before her death in 2011.
Doors open at 6 PM, presentation at 7PM, reception with artists and book-signing until 9 PM.

Gary's 2003 book, 'Extraordinary Interpretations: Florida's Self-Taught Artists,' featured Reva among other self-taught artists whose work was exemplary, distinguished by idiosyncratic details shaking long-standing foundations of art-making. In recent years Outsider art has been co-opted into the museum culture, altering our views about the nature of art and aesthetics.
Mr. Monroe introduces remarkable self-taught Florida artists, exposing the ideas which led to their renegade creations including new information about The Highwaymen painters and their legacy and the iconic Purvis Young among others.
Space is limited space so reserve your seats now for a very special evening with refreshments. Special pricing on books and paintings are available opening night only.
Sunday, December 4, 2 - 4 PM, join us for another FREE event, a panel discussion led by members of FPAN, Florida Public Archaeology Network at FAU Fort Lauderdale campus, about the 'Rise of Decorative Art' in pre-contact native tribal people here in Broward County and the broader Southeast region (AD-1600). Learn what might have been happening in the culture of ancient groups when artists began to create images that weren't found in their surroundings through the 'creative process.'
