Description

Opening reception with the artists for Memories of Diaspora: Immigration Narratives of Los Angeles. Light refreshments and live music.

Curated by Art Division Executive Director Dan McCleary, Director of Painting and Drawing Luis Serrano and Assistant to the Director, Dagmar Brown.

On view September 7, 2019 - January 5, 2020

Art Division’s newest exhibit celebrates the Beach House tenth anniversary theme of “Shared Memory” by conveying the intensely personal struggles, hopes, and dreams that comprise the immigrant experience. The exhibition features work by Art Division students who are first-generation Angeleinos, along with work by Art Division faculty, and artists from Oaxaca, Mexico, whose art depicts family memories of journeying North to cross the border.

Featured artists are: Javier Carrillo, Emmanuel Galvéz, Katherine Garcia, Alex “Otiswoods” Gonzalez, Hiroko Hata, Stephanie Hernandez, Sade Jones, Dr. Lakra, Peter Liashkov, Sandra Maldonado, Luis Mateo, Alicia Lopez Mendoza, Fernando Olivera, Roberto Ortíz, Guillermo Perez, Daniela Ram, Diego Rodarte, Artemio Rodriguez, Jeremy Saborio, Rebecca Souvannarath, Federico, Valdez, and Yesck.

Art Division is a non-profit (501)(c)3 organization dedicated to training and supporting underserved youth who are committed to studying the visual arts. Art Division distinguishes itself by providing in-depth services to young adults aged 18-26 in the Rampart District of Los Angeles, an at-risk population within one of Los Angeles’ most densely populated and underserved communities.
