The 5th Colombian Film Festival New York (www.colfilmny.com) opens Thursday March 23rd at Village East Cinema (182 2nd Avenue, corner of 12 Street) with the US premiere of Colombian poignant drama Perros. Directed by Harold Trompetero, Perros is the story of Misael (John Leguizamo), a peasant who is imprisoned for a passion crime. During his confinement, he is abused and humiliated by guards and other prisoners and blamed and forgotten by their loved ones. Misael, lonely and abandoned, finds affection and tenderness in Sarna, the dog of the prison. Joining Leguizamo. Stay tuned after the screening for a Q&A session with director Harold Trompetero, producer Mauricio Brunetti and actor John Leguizamo.
“Perros (Dogs) is perhaps the most important film of my career in experimental terms, it is the result of hard work and the ability to bring together the best male cast of colombian actors led by John Leguizamo. It’s an honor to have this film as part of the opening night on the 5th year of the most important overseas festival which focuses on colombian cinema” says Harold Trompetero.
“This is a story that takes us into the minds of the characters, their past and their imprisoned present. Starring John Leguizamo, Perros creates a metaphor for everyday life by drawing parallels between the jail where the story develops and contemporary society.” (Milagros Oliveros, BogotaPost)
